It is my firm belief that most people, even many who would call themselves Search Engine Optimizers, do not “get” PageRank. They know that it is about your incoming links, but they do not understand what made it so revolutionary, or why it is so useful. It is my opinion that this lack of understanding […]
In reading forums today I came across a topic I do not often see discussed and I thought it would make a good blog post. When doing link building do you work on links for your homepage alone, or your subpages? If you can get a link from one source, how do you decide which […]
I sometimes am amazed at how easy some articles can be to write. I was reading a forum thread about yet another webmaster being dropped from Google and as I started responding I thought to myself that there was so much information I could say, I might as well write an article. So I sat […]
Researching links is an important activity that every webmaster must do. This encompasses not only researching who links to you, but also who links to your competitors, or where your competitors link, or even finding places where you can get new links. The Internet is full of myths about how Google ranks pages. One of my oldest articles written, originally for SitePoint before being published here, was about Google Myths. In this article I dispel the myth about Google giving special bonuses to DMOZ or Yahoo listed sites, outside of the normal bonus the page would get […]
As I first reported here MSN launched a new meta tag for webmasters who did not want ODP (DMOZ.org) directory data to overwrite their normal abstract in the search results. Yesterday Google announced they would now support this tag as well, for both DMOZ titles & descriptions. Forum Discussion
As reported here DigitalPoint’s Co-op adnetwork has added the option for users to nofollow their link. The rel=”nofollow” link attribute was released by search engines to allow webmasters to indicate links that the search engines should not trust. Basically if you didn’t want to get banned or penalized for false link schemes you were to […]
Of all the million dollar homepage clones out there this one I think has the most merit. Its another stupid idea of course, but a stupid idea with lots of media attention equals lots of traffic. Lee over at forum trends posts that he knows of someone already getting 1000 visitors a day through their […]
