Apple vs. Green Peace

It isn't often the techno-geek world and the primary focus of my environmental chemistry site collide in a way that people here might be interested in, but Selkirk was kind enough to put me on one such collision. A month ago, Greenpeace came out with a report on how the fourteen top computer companies ranked for environmental responsibility (http://www.greenpeace.org/internatio...er-electronics). To everyone's surprise (including some at Greenpeace) Apple Computers came out on bottom. Well today Selkirk pointed me to Steve Jobs' response to Greenpeace's report (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/agreenerapple/). This in turn gave me one of those rare opportunities to honestly blog about the stuff you guys do on a daily basis and still be on topic (normally the closest I get to electronics in my blog are compact florescent lights). Being able to blog about a little skirmish between Greenpeace, Apple and Steve Jobs in one post might almost seem like a dream come true (hmm Apple vs. Greenpeace is that political or religious? )

Anyways, for those who are interested, you can read my blog post: Apple gets trashed in Greenpeace report card and comes back fighting

Okay I'll admit it, I titled it to get the attention of Apple fanboys and Greenpeace tree huggers. You know we all have to occasionally stoop to the sensationalist headlines.

I didn't know about the Green Peace report. It makes more sense now.

Ya, Apple's secretiveness got them into trouble and created a mountain of bad PR that had to be cleaned up. They could have come out near or on the top of Green Peace's report if they had just disclosed what they have done environmentally. Instead Jobs was forced to post an apology, which was laced with resentment.

Yes it is, I have a "digg this" link on my blog, but I'll let someone else Digg it. I'm not into Digging my own stuff. Maybe I'll get lucky and some Digg regular will happen by and see fit to digg it, and then again, maybe they won't. I figure from a long term prospective it probably isn't wise to try and game "the system". Just look at what happen when Digg founders tried to do something Digg users didn't like yesterday.
