Jumpsites

Can anyone tell me if jumpsites still work? Or is that frowned about now?

I have a site that has the content about a product. I have an offshoot product that I can sell along with that product. I never sell the offshoot product without the main product. So, is it best to have all of the content for both products on one site or should I keep it the way that it is with the offshoot product having its own site that is rather small, but with lots of links to the main site and vice-versa?

Two sites.

That allows you to individually promote both sites to their fullest. For instance you'll have a better chance of getting both sites in a directory.
