Some people should not reproduce.... too late...

My wife is in medical school and she is doing her OB rotation right now. Last night while on call (she basically worked from 6 am yesterday to 8 am this morning, it sucks). A woman came with complaining of nausea. Turns out she was pregnant, and not only a few months pregnant, she was 8 months pregnant and in labor.

This woman was 5'10 and 140 pounds and didn't know she was pregnant for 8 months, and she swore she never had sex and must have gotten pregnant while she slept (but her parents were there, she was 20 or 21). 3 hours after coming into the hospital for nausea she gave birth, reminds me of those jokes "I went into the hospital for a headache and came out with high blood pressure." only now its "I went into the hospital with a stomach ache and came out with a baby."

When the baby was delivered and they gave it to her to hold all she said was "Its cute."

Someone needs some psychiatric counseling I think.

    Sounds like Jesus Christ's mother

I have nothing but bad memories from visiting delivery room
Reality is the leading cause of stress amongst those in touch with it

My mother was the same way (except she knew, and knew better). The thing is, she had this knack for carrying not only me, but also my two older brothers "in the back of the womb" so to speak - meaning she never really "showed" when she was pregnant. One time her first husband was driving her to the hospital just BLAZING down the road when a cop pulled them over for speeding. The old man explained to the cop what was going on; the cop looked at her and accused them both of lying. So he then said "well then, why don't you escort us to the hospital - if we're lying, you can arrest us when we get there."

Needless to say the cop not only had his foot shoved deep in his mouth with egg on his face, but also had a side of crow for the ride back to the station when he got the confirmation from the nurse that she really was pregnant and in labor (this was back in the early 70s mind you).

I think this also applies to the women who allow their children to wander around stores alone. Any crazy person could snatch the child away and disappear with him or her.

How about a trio of 4, 5 and 6 year old girls at a local shopping mall that were being harrassed by a gang of teenagers on a weekly basis? (Before I intervened and put a permanent stop to it.) Interesting story about that really. Especially when I pulled a hunting knife out, set it on the table at the game store and told them that if they felt "man enough" to take me on to try and grab it.

Not only did they turn their acts around, but one of the kids' parents even thanked me for setting them straight (that was supposed to be THEIR JOB, not mine).

    Anybody up to hear it?

A couple of questions: Where in the world are the parents of the little girls? And this happened on a weekly basis?

Apparently they were elsewhere in the mall, and yes, this did happen on a weekly basis.

It was clear that the girl was trying to hide it from her parents. She must be a little touched in the head and maybe the baby will be removed or adopted for its own good.

Parents are not supposed to be "elsewhere" in a mall and allow their children to be out of their site. Are these people brain dead? Do they not read the papers? A child can be snatched away so quickly.

I read an article about a year ago where a father was working on his car in front of his house and his little daughter was right there watching him. A stranger came along while the dad's back was turned and took the child by the hand and started to walk away with her. Of course, the father saw what was happening and was able to save his child. I cannot believe the nerve of people!!!

How about the story of Jonbenet Ramsey, that beautiful little 5 year old girl who was murdered in her own home in Denver while her parents and brother were elsewhere IN THE HOUSE. To this day, the murderer has never been apprehended.

And the story of the abduction of a 4 year old from a hotel room in Portugal. The parents, both London doctors, went to dinner in the hotel and left their 2 year old boy twins and 4 year old daughter alone in the room. She was missing when they returned. Surely they could have afforded a babysitter to ensure the safety of their children.

I agree, Terri. If it hadn't been for the fact that I had been quietly "warned" by the employees at that store to keep quiet, I would have gone off on the parents as well when I saw them with the kids walking past the store.

Maybe I should find out who they are and send them an invoice for babysitting their children for the few minutes it took me to put the fear of God into the teenage punks that day.

What is so sad is that some women can have babies so easily and don't take good care of them and don't deserve them. Some other women are unable to have children and want them so badly - and would love them and be good mothers. "Whoever said life was fair?"
