    The End Of Pop Ups

Microsoft have released XP Service Pack 2 which includes a built in pop up blocker. MSN.com took popups off their site a few weeks ago. Information taken from Site Point Forums.

Already? I thought it was going to be released in April.

This will hurt revenue to be sure -- however I have Google's popup blocker and I still get pops sometimes so they can be beaten.

I use google pop up blocker, but on sites that only have one pop up that I support I get it not to block. Sites include: Murmurs.com (for the new PM message pop up when you get one), my site, online literature.

Isn't it a javascript popup anyway for PM's?

I'm not personally too bothered about adverts being blocked by popups. If they are being blocked though, it is a shame because they're useful to promote certain sections of your own site (like newsletters etc)

It's alright; users will just get more annoyed with the new inventory coming through. You can always count on the few advertisers who take everything too far.

    The future... http://www.fullpageflash.com ?

This is one site i've seen recently that sells FULL PAGE flash ads that cannot be closed (until the ad is finished playing) and features annoying sound loops.

$8CPM (supposedly), but is it worth the annoyance?

At $8 CPM ?... absolutely not worth it. If I came up against a site running an ad like that, which I couldn't close, I wouldn't return and I'm normally quite tolerant of ads.

Oooh, that's a $8 CPM after their cut, double FastClick's interstitials. But I don't think I could put something on that the user is forced to sit through.

Their graphic icons bring something to mind.

Take this page - http://www.fullpageflash.com/contactus.html - see the "Contact Us At" and footer images? Those dashed lines look like small text you can't read... almost like they're trying to hide something?

About not being able to close the ads.. everything in their "portfolio" page I sampled had a "close" button.

That's just a design element, they aren't trying to hide anything.

Ya I understand. I just find it a bizarre icon.
