Talking What the frigg. Part 2.

Ok, this is the second time this week I am bewildered at something.

I buy a domain name about 20 days ago. Its a pagerank 3 after the last update... The site is indexed in google.

I thought this was strange enough... until I look on Alexa.. This domain name has been active according to them for 3 years. (In THe top 100k)

I search google for "site.com" and only my site pops up. So I cant find any history of this domain name or site anywhere.

I looked on archive.org... found nothing.

Is it possible I scooped up an expired domain name? I am confused?

Could it be the name was left around? and all the traffic was from typeins?

    the name is

    keyword#.com

    so it might be?

Have you tried look at a domain name whois history? E.g. http://whois.domaintools.com as that can be useful to work out who/what owned the domain and where.

I'd set up some tracking on the domain if you haven't already. Is there any traffic coming to the domain now? Where does the referrer info say it's coming from?

Any results for the full domain name ("keyword1.com") on inventory.overture.com ?

It does sound strange. Best thing is to do what Westech said and track all the incoming traffic and referrals if possible. Although maybe it's a quirk in Alexa?
