    linking to front page

If I have a site where I don't care at all about the pagerank of the front page, is it worth linking to it? Of course it would be for users, but how about for search engines.

I have a website with 10 categories where I really care about the pagerank value. So the front page links to each of those 10 categories. Then each category page links to every other category page, but doesnt link back to the front page.

Would this be beneficial to the categories?

    Thanks for any thoughts/advice.

Yes. The PR will flow to your category pages. If you don't want that PR sent back to your home page, just use a javascript link or similar, so the spider can't follow it.

If on a category page, you have interlinking with the other categories, then this will spread the PR pretty evenly between them.

I would put the link to your homepage in.

The only PR your categories will lose is something like .15*.1

    Its incredibly small.

I agree. Linking to your homepage will not harm you. And as mentioned, will be of benefit to your users...
