Put shopping cart in a subdomain or new directory

I want to install a shopping cart on an existing web site. Would it be best to install it as a subdomain (ie: store.example.com) or as a new directory (ie: example.com/store)?

I've seen both ways get used, but I'm wondering what the benefits would be of choosing one over the other. SEO is (of course) a priority.

I do not think it is going to make a difference which one you use, just make sure it is the one you like to look at best.

I prefer: domain.com/store/ as it looks better to me, though some of the guru's around here might have a different answer as far as SEO.

Subdomains are much more complicated than subdirectories, I only think they're appropriately used when it is an actual different physical server. Otherwise, just use a subdirectory.
