Using blog to promote site

What would be the basic principle to do that?

Just to mention ocasionally website in blog text or linking, or baners or something else ??

If I write blog can I put links to my site or banners? Is that worht it anyway?

Yes, blogs by their nature more easily accumulate incoming links that a content or ecommerce site so it is a good method of gaining weight.

i say, if you have relevent and good content, you can stick in some links occasionally (in your content). But make sure its relevant to whatever your blogging about...don't wanna spam your readers now

I agree with Uzzz. Banners get crappy clickthroughs. Instead make posts about something you sell, stories about the site, etc. I have one blog promoting an affiliate program and this is the way I do it. Another blog I link to content on the target site.
