    Traffic Tracking

I am not sure where to get my traffic tracvked from.

I find that Google Analytics is limited for me since I don't run PPC campaigns or eCommerce sites. It is also prety slow on my slow internet connection. Awstats isn't working at all on my latest site, analytics is showing traffic from MSN, Google and a few other sites, including here, yet awstats only shows 1 unique for this month which is well off.

I'm looking for a pretty advanced tracking system that can track referrals, searches, uniques, browsers and the rest, and can be limited to date ranges. I would be best without flash graphs becuase they take ages to load.

    Any suggestions?
Are there trackers that you can install on your own server and use?
Any good free web based trackers?
    What do you guys use?

I like AXS, I find trackers like that do the best job at reporting referrers, if that is the main stat you are after.

Google Analytics is the most detailed and useful stats program I've used yet. I used to like Urchin, but Google bought them and they effectively are Google Analytics now. Its tricky to use and I am still figuring out new things almost every time I load it.

If you are on a slow internet connection that sucks, its not even all that fast on my broadband connection.

I agree with Cutter, Google Analytics is the best I've found. Since you're on a slow connection you might want to try out Pphlogger - http://www.phpee.com/21.html . It's what I used before Google Analytics. It's free and it's pretty lightweight as far as page size.

If you don't mind paying you also might want to check out Mint - www.haveamint.com . I haven't used it myself but I've heard good things about it.

Having to wait for quite some time to look at graphs in analyitics is very frustrating, plus I can't find the search referrals(the actual search terms).

I appreciate the suggestions and will investigate further.

The story of my crap internet(off topic!)

    Telecom Broadband Blues

Telecom is New Zealands lines and telecommunications company, they have a complete market monopoly and wholesale internet to ISPs who then sell it to the consumer. The problem with Telecom having a monopoly is that they are lazy.

I live 10 to 15 minutes from the city of Wanganui, and Telecom have still not updated our phone exchange. Essentially this means that we can't get broadband. Pitiful isn't it. We have been calling Telecom for a long time now. In late 2004 Telecom promised to have broadband available to us by June. When it still wasn't available in July we called again, this time they promised it would be finished in six weeks. It is now January 2006 and we still cannot get broadband. All because of a lazy telecommunications company. I think Telecom needs to Get With The Program.

We have looked at satellite internet but it's just not worth it, with expensive installation, low performance and high prices.

I have talked to people who live in remote areas of Australia, sometimes up to half an hour away from small towns with populations of 10,000 or less.
Come on Telecom, Get With The Program.
    Cry for me

    Update
I have installed AXS and will test it for a few weeks, it seems pretty good. it certainly loads fast but i have yet to see what it shows seacrh engine referrals like and how it handles a lot of data.

google Anayltics is a great option. I am using it now on 2 or 3 of my websites and am still working on adding it to more. Great tool I love playing with it.
