I've got $5,000...what should I spend it on?

This is somewhat hypothetical, somewhat not. But say I had $5,000 to spend on anything...what should I spend it on?

I'd prefer it to be associated with the web in some way (a website, ecommerce, whatever).

I'm not looking to blow this money...but make the money back and then some. So a solid return on my investment is a must.

I'm also not necessarily looking to just buy something and passively let it make money. Something that requires some upkeep/work is perfectly acceptable.

    Ideas?
    Josh.

Hold onto it unless you find a really good deal on an established website (with traffic, none of that pre-made stuff) or a domain name. The key is to go for value, or else you'll end up wasting it.

I agree with both of the above. Just make your choice: One big site as cutter's implying, or lots of smaller sites as Emancipator could be interpreted as saying.

Canon DMkII camera. Or a 20D with a 400mm f4L (IS if possible).

That, and some skill, could earn you money with nature, sports, or (shudder) paparrazi photography.

Just watch out if you are buying a lot of smaller sites that you aren't getting something you could easily do yourself. Its not that difficult to throw up a website with 10 or 15 pages, get some traffic in MSN and have it making a few dollars a day without any real quality incoming links. You want to buy sites that have quality links and traffic coming from msn, yahoo, and google.
