    Ranking a Review Site?

Have any of you guys tried to rank a review site in the search engines? I've found a rather interesting keyword where:

Overture lists over 30,000 searches per month
Google only has 8 million sites indexed
All of the sites on the front page are products with no original content
None of the sites are optimized for the keyword, except for anchor text from affiliates
All of them have high-paying affiliate programs

Seems like an interesting opportunity for a review site using affiliate links and adsense. Only, how do you get a review site to rank? I can optimize the page titles, content, and plug-in a few hundred directory links with anchor text. But I can't really see the site being more than 5-10 pages of content.

Do you think it's worth pursuing?

5-10 pages of content is tough, but there is no bias against such sites. If the competition is low enough it won't take much.

    Look at these searches:

    http://www.google.com/search?sourcei...+fusion+review
    http://www.google.com/search?num=50&...adsense+review

    http://www.google.com/search?num=50&...stclick+review
    http://www.google.com/search?num=50&...e+media+review

So I'm not #1 on any of them, but its all 2 & 3's and the extent of my SEO is making sure the page is friendly and uses a decent title tag.

The other side of this equation is that a 5-10 page site is easy to make and easy to update. So chances are it'll take you very little time to launch so even if it only earns a little bit it should end up profitable.

Hmm. Most of those reviews are part of larger content sites. Do you think a stand-alone site could rank as well?

I agree with you about the income part. It would take me a few hours to set up the site. If I made $100 per month, I'd be happy, and I'm guessing I'd make more than that.

I think a stand along site could be profitable. You'll just have an easier time getting links if its bigger. If you have the time, make it.
