    User Activation Rates

What is the activation rate for users of your forums?

    never confirmed email/activated

    Website Publisher: 422/1870
    TheFantasyForum: 344/4615
    Literature Network: 7178/14,959

I know, for whatever reason, I have a lot of people putting in fake addresses when registering, and of course most spammers never confirm, but otherwise I'm not entirely sure why my literature site is so high.

997/5321 for the forums I run (I don't own them)

Do you have CAPTCHA enabled for registration? I've found that stops most spammers right there. Then you can get a more accurate reflection of real people not activating. It might just be that your literature site, for whatever reason, has been a bigger target for spammers.

CAPTCHA was turned off on the above mentioned board for about 3yrs, until I started managing it, so I suspect that's why the number is as high as it is.

I do have captcha now, the forum is pretty old, 2001 I think, so many people registered without it.

I really can't see why someone would take the time to register for a forum, only for then to not bother activating. Surely they're not all spammers.

No, but also my demographic isn't always the most computer savvy, so they may just get confused.

How do you get "never confirmed email" and "activated" numbers for vbulletin? This will be quite interesting to check, especially as I started a posting contest with iPod prize today (check my signature).

Also does anybody know how to add a text for all users' signatures?

Just check usergroups. The number who haven't actived will be 'Users Awaiting Email Confirmation"

    Thanks Chris,

I'll check the numbers later today and I'll post again in a few days, as I expect to increase the registrations with this contest. Do you know how to add text/link to all users' signatures? Is that possible at all?
