    Generating more traffic

    Hi All,

I set up news website 3 months ago. I submitted to the major search engines and it is indexed. I also submitted to major directories, but the daily site traffic is not growing, currently I get an average 8 visits per day. I also started to advertise (google adsense) about a month ago and upto now I earned $0 . I don't have any user registration feateure on my website.

Can you guys suggest a way to improve the traffic of my website ?

    Kind Regards,

    Ab001

Do you know what keywords and market you are specifically targetting? Are you listed in major directories, and if so which ones?

In my experience just submitting to engines and directories doesn't do a whole lot. Dmoz helps, Wikipedia definately helps (and brings direct traffic) other than that, I would say its like 1% of your overall promotion. What you really need now is good links on high quality sites.

ive never submitted to a directory or engine. So read into that however you like. I may be missing out on traffic but its not THE source of traffic.

Getting in wikipedia is tricky, if you aren't careful you will get banned. I've found its definately harder to stay listed now than a year or so ago.

I tried to post my site as a resource on several highly related topics, and the links were removed because I was the owner of the site. No other reason. I don't even sell anything on the site. So, I wrote it off as a waste of time.

Now, maybe you have to form a partnership with someone and have them post your web site as a resource, in exchange for you posting their site as a resource?

whats with jumping all over cutter? He didnt tell anybody to spam wiki. Anybody who spams wiki is the same kind of idiot who spams forums with "check out this cool XYZ". As somebody who has been here for awhile i think its a bit unfair to lump cutter in that boat.

You want to promote your site you dont want to post links on sites, because people will jump all over you for being a spammer. Instead contribute MATERIALs. Like news or articles and get a link that way.

Hmm. They accept articles? So I can just take something I published on ezinearticles.com and publish it on wiki?

Maseko thanks for re-affirming what I am saying. So many people think their is some magic trick. The simple truth is give a little take a little. Forum sigs, directory listing, sure they generate traffic but its nothing compared to 1 good article contributed to the right place. Give a little... take a little. My 2cents.
