LCD's are getting very cheap here now. My 19in set be back $400 AUD. So thats only $1600 for a 4 monitor setup (about $1200 USD). Still, for now Im happy with my single monitor

Just go with CRTs for now and save (or better yet, earn more money) so you can buy LCDs later.

Dual monitors for me increased productivity 2 fold.

Go with lcd's they are cheap nowadays you can get a pair for 300 to 400 dollars if you like the 1280 resolution.

I have crt's right now because i am waiting for the 21 widescreens to go below 500 bucks so i can buy two. I might wait even longer and hookup 3 19's since my desk doesnt have that much room. I have my resolution set at 1600x1200 and if i can go higher i might even go up one...

I know a lot of video cards have dual video out for dual monitors, but how are people supplying 3 or 4 monitors with a signal?

I believe you need two cards, although there are a select few video cards that have more than two outputs

I have a dell 24" widescreen LCD that I've been using for a few months now. It's really really nice. Not sure it's increased my productivity (never really work that intensely anyway ), but it's nice to have the extra screen space and have windows side by side.
