    Dual monitors

Just got set up with dual monitors this morning. Not lcd, just massive old school crts. I've done this before, but its never fealt right have an old 15 incher up against a 19 inch. I'm interested to see if this increases my productivity at all.

I`m gonna get another monitor here soon.. been so busy haven't ordered, and am waiting for coupon.

I know it will help productivity for me since I`ll be able to code on one screen and constantly refresh the view in IE/FF on the other browser.

I remember my friend doing this a couple years ago. That was the first time I'd ever seen it done. I have a couple old school monotors lying around, I should give it a try. I'm sure it would increase my productivity since I am constantly swiching between screens and usually have about 367 things open at once. Give or take a little.

One thing I've been using before this is Litestep. It has a virtual desktop built into it so there are four "virtual" screens you can easily swap between. The downside is that you can see more than one at a time.

So far this is working nicely. However, I think I'd rather have one of those big widescreen lcds so that my image isn't cut down the center.

Those look like relatively cheap monitors.. like $1k for all or less.

You can get used CRTs dirt cheap these days. If you look in the right places you can get 21"ers for free.

Does anyone else here always have an obnoxious number of programs/windows open at once? At any given time I usually have 12-14 windows open, plus Firefox which has a minimum of 10 tabs open. Its a huge mess, even with two monitors!

I was thinking that four monitor setup would be more around $2000.00
It would be around here, at least.

For me, even $1000 would be a lot of extra money for something like that. I usually have about 4 webpages loading at once (dial up ) and probably about 2 or 3 more just kind of chilling that I'm looking at. I usually have msn up but rarely have it set where people can see I'm on. I also usually have a couple other programs open so I guess I'm guilty of having a bunch of junk open too.
