    CSS and Flash

    I learnt something today.

When when u create css drop down menus they dont layer over flash movies. This is very annoying since I have a site with a horizontal nav and a flash movie below.

Does anyone know (apart from not using flash!) a way around this?

Try messing around with your z-indexes--there's the chance that your embedding code includes the code to put it in the index above the navigational menu.

What system and browser are you using?

I know that ie had a problem with this, and also macs.

I can't remember if the 2 were related though.

Uh... that stuffs up my solution then

The 2 were related - there used to be a problem a while ago using an old ie on the mac exactly as you described.

The only time this was ever observed in a WEbsite - was when the programmer used TWO OnCALL scripts - one to pull down the Menus Onmouseover - and a second to simultaneously "HIDE" the flash in the DIV

But that strategy may not be practcal for all Websites

of course as a last resort - one could make the menus FLASH - that works
but depending on the Flash SCRIPT being used - the Links are not always spidered by Search Engines
