    e-mail advertising?

I know a company that started about a year ago, they have different competitions.

For example, "which colors does the canadian flag have..?"

    1. red and black
    2. red and white
    3. black and yellow

and then you signup with your name and email also..
and you agree when signing up that its ok to recieve emails from SomeCompany Inc.... newsletters....

And you can win for example a 50" widescreen TV......

they get paid about 0.4 dollar per email.... and by now they have about 500 tusen email adressers on their own..

what do you think about a idea like this?

    I think it's scammy.
Most people don't read into what they're signing up for--in their minds, they're only signing up for the contest, and don't want any of the spam that will be sent afterwards.

    You have a point.
But there is good money to be made here if you ask me...

Its not easy as you think. You are going to get spam complaints, get blacklisted, etc.

I run a double-opt-in e-mail newsletter, I offer nothing for sale, and its for a very narrow audience, and idiot aol users are continually marking it as spam. Hell, the other day someone signed up, confirmed the confirmation e-mail, got the "your in" e-mail, and marked both as spam. Too bad for them, because they were lazy they'll never recieve another e-mail from me again.

However, im thinking about the scandinavian market.
Its a little different how it works with complaints and getting blacklisted, if you ask me.

Yes... the world is full of idiots. People will sign up on my ecommerce site, get a confirmation email, and then send me an irate email demanding that I never email them again.
