    Duplicate Content?

What exactly is everyone's current thought's on duplicate content? chris I saw in another thread where you said this..

Naturally with duplicate content filters being used by search engines you do not necessarily want to publish an article that has been used more times than the village bicycle.

There are some really great articles that people have written but have been as chris put it "used more than the village bicyle". But these articles are good, so how would one go about using these article?

Maybe tell spiders not to follow?

    What exactly are the penalties?

You just shouldn't expect that great of rankings from it.

Unique content is always going to be better.

Oh ok. I thought for some reason search engines would penalize your entire site. If it is just that specific content that is "penalized" then I am ok with that.

IMO, Google penalizes page rank when it determines that content is duplicated by other sites. Penalty is the punishment by search engines to a website that violates the engine's terms of service. Punishment also mean de-indexing or delisting from search engines.

Yeah my real concern here is adding content that is helpful, but then having it take down the overall ranking of my site, like I have heard of AWS doing to some sites. Chris just mentioned in another post that happening to his savvyshopping.

I think I will just make it all original.

Yepp, it might be consider as duplicate content. I think you should make moderate changes in the article to publish and submit in other article directories. You should also add some dynamic content in it. I think it will be better.

Does Yahoo have such penalty system like Google does? I could care less about Google as most of my site traffic are from Yahoo.

All major search engines do, from my understanding.

Yepp. Yahoo also have such penalty system but it is much more complex than Google. Yahoo has a very strict spam control and thus penalties are apllied automatically or manually. "Multiple sites offering the same content" is considered as a spam according to Yahoo's guidelines pages for webmasters.

So do you think if I was writing my own articles then decided to add a few articles in from free articles sites my whole site would be penalized?
