Some got my F**king CC details!

When it comes to online security, I am more than anal about it. I run 2 virus programs, and 3 spyware programs every day. I don't go to warez/pr0n sites. I only purchase from reputable sites. I don't trade files people I dont know etc etc etc etc etc

This morning I check my CC account, and it's got a cash advance for $1169 on it. So I call the bank, some f^&ker has used my CC at Ladbrokes (UK betting) webiste! Makes my blood boil! My bank assured me I would have no worries getting the money back, but I have to get a new card, contact all the ppl billing the card and get it changed to the new card.

    Arrrgghhh.

They say your card is more likely to be swiped at a restaurant than online. A waiter could just swipe it through a magnetic strip reader and thats all he needs to do. There was a scam here where they busted a ring of restaurant employees down south who had done it to like a thousand customers.

Yeah, someone got ahold of my CC about two years ago. I don't know how. They charged about $1500 at a few weird online companies (porn or something). I just went to my bank and they cancelled the charges. Also had to update my CC# at all my other accounts since they changed my #.

I maintain my main bank accounts at two separate banks. The main one receiving payments doesn't have a card, the other one has a 'debit card' which will not pay out more than what is in the account. It's a little bit of a hassle tranferring money across, and a little bit of extra expense, but no nasty surprises.

(The accounts are at separate banks because it is a community bank which provides the debit card feature rather than a major bank).

Debit cards are worse than credit. Why? Because with a credit card you can charge back any charge that you didn't authorize. With a debit card, the money is gone, out of your account, and you are the one who has to jump through hoops to get it back.

I have a Visa check card. It's like a debit card (can only spend funds in my checking account), but it's also like a credit card (it's accepted everywhere Visa is). My bank cancelled charges on this card.

I wanna get a pre-paid Visa card, but have been too busy to get one, lately.
I'd prefer to use those gift cards, though. But alas, I've been too busy for those as well.

Hope they kick the guys arse that stole your CC number.

Yeah I heard that too. Lucky I have a low limit. The bank offers me new credit limits every 6 months or so, and I always turn them down. Well at least you can get your money back with a CC.

I too keep my bank accounts seperate. My incoming account (business account) just recieves money and does not have a card. My CC is at a totally different bank and only I only put enough money on it to pay off what I spend (which is not much!)

Someone used my egg card a few months back to place £500 worth of bets at William Hill UK. Got the money back easy as anything though. The fraud expert I spoke to said that betting sites attract this kind of thing.
