I use a $7/month reseller at http://hostww.net/ . Only been on it for a month but no problems so far with the few small sites I've put up.

I currently use a reseller account from SharkSpace.com formerly SJR Hosting.

    They've been excellent!

After Emancipator's suggestion I went with Nexcess about six months, and having nothing but good to say about them. Everything is great, support replies nearly instantly. Love it

is that claim that site 5 makes about having very few sites hosted on each server and it makes the hosting faster TRUE?

Site5 is offering a silly deal right now - $5 a month if paid in advance for 24 months and some silly bandwidth and space. 55GB of storage and 5TB of transfer.

I have heard good things about Site5 for small sites but all that for $5 seems unlike one of the more reputable providers.

Tempted to go for it for a new shop site, but would rather get a more realistic plan for the same money if performance suffers - thoughts?

I've been with site5 for two years now and they've been great, and yes, they do have a small number of sites per server, from what I've seen of my acount and the accounts of clients I've worked with who host there. They've been very reliable and good about support whenever there is a problem.

There are managed server companies, but they usually cost an arm and a leg. For instance Rackspace is managed but compared to Ev1 they offer like 1/100th the bandwidth at 10x the price.

I think a better option is to get the cheap Ev1 server and hire a third party management company to handle non-hardware problems/installs (ev1 still handles hardware).

I use Pair networks (http://pair.com). Currently I'm on a shared "HV1" (high volume) account but have been considering shifting to a dedicated server to improve database reliability. Their dedicated servers are fully managed and have an entry level price of $250 per month. If my traffic significantly picked up such that the higher hosting fees wouldn't be felt so much, I'd go to a dedicated server in a heartbeat so that my site's didn't fall victim to server downtime caused by someone else.
