Will try out your advice and let you know what happens.

What is "link farms"? I am new to web designing and have never heard this term before.

Right now I have just one site up. It is a free "webzine". This is a free magazine on the web but more on the reader's digest type. I am also free games to put on it. Eventually I will be teaching classes on it for free.

If you haven't already twigged this post is an example of subtle spam ie an unrequested seemingly knowledgeable/helpful post by a low post count noob often followed in a month or so by another helpful post.

Link farms are usually a large number of websites or pages with large numbers of links to other websites. They attempt to increase Page Rank in order to improve rankings in search engines.

The name usually gives it away...I'm pretty sure we've seen pretty much the exact same post here a week or so ago.

If link farms are bad for PR, is a policy of paying for links OK?
