    Multiple Domains?

    Hi folks,

Would any of you purchase multiple domains for just one site? I am thinking of buying a domain which is the name of my site, and perhaps a domain that includes major keywords in my site category...

    What you think?

I wouldn't its just not a good idea.

Unless you mean buying the .net .com and .org of a single name so no one else can use it. But using two vastly different domains for the same site is a bad idea.

    Thanks Chris...

Would you reccomend getting a domain that is the name of my site (which includes one keyword), or one that is just keywords?

    Cheers,
    Mike

    Ok, like the following:

If your site was called 'Photography Site, have www.photographysite.com - this would include your site name plus a keyword.

Or one that has just keywords, like: www.photography-deals.com

They are awful examples, but are the best I can do...

I made it so Online Website Builder was the name of the site though.

Have you read my article on domain names?

Basically if you will be optimizing your home page for a keyword/phrase that you have a chance of being listed highly on then name your site using keywords and get a domain that reflects your site's name.

If you'll only be optimizing your subpages, then it isn't necessary.

Take this site for example. "Website Publisher" isn't a popular keyword and "Web Development" has too much competition so I'm not worry about optimizing the homepage so I didn't get a hypenated domain.

Would you say that my new domain could get high in the search engines because of the keywords?

A domain alone isn't going to do that.

A domain will simply help, slightly. If you're entering a competitive field though that slight help is appreciated.
