    Am I being hacked?

    Sometimes I cut a file from a folder, and paste it into it parent folder, but when it appears in the parent folder another file I pasted there a second ago is missing... This is on my hard drive and I have over 10gb free space...

    Is the file missing or perhaps covered by the new icon? Change your view to "list" and see if it still happens.
