    Newbie question...

    Hello everyone,

    I have a question...

Let's suppose I have a website that gets 60,000 uniques per day.

With a CPM of 1$, does it means I would make 60$ a day?

Is CPM based on hits or uniques?
When someone hit "refresh", does it count for 2 hits ?

When advertising companys put on their pages CPM of 1$ for example, do that 1$ includes their commission?

Thank you for your future response,
    Congrats for this great website!!

CPM is based on impressions (page views). So when someone hits refresh, it counts twice.

Different adnetworks market differently. For some the rates they publish are gross (before their commission) for some they are net (after their commission).

Thank you for the fast reply Chris!

"Let's suppose I have a website that gets 60,000 uniques per day.

So am I right on that statement?

Believe me, your English is a lot better than most people with it with their PRIMARY language!

Chris, it varies whether it's for uniques or just hits on the banners between adnetworks, doesn't it?

No. If on average, your visitors generate 10 pageviews each, and non of them block banners or use text based banners, that's 600,000 pageviews a day, or $600 a day. You ready to retire??!!

    600$ per day!
That's crazy, I believe it is easy for people who runs big websites like www.ign.com to live only with their websites!

The average CPM is 1-2$ right?

    Thx everyone

Your average CPM will vary on your site's topic. Sometimes its under $1, some of my sites get over $50 CPM (this kind of traffic is very hard to come by

The big sites like IGN have lots of expenses, but they still come out with a lot of money.

Sites about expensive things or sites that attract a wealthy audience will get higher CPMs.

Do you run vcdquality yourself? Your main problem will be getting advertiser because most TOS prohibit that type of site.

    Hi Cutter,

    No I don't run vcdquality.

However, their is nothing illegal about that site.

CNN.com reports crimes like murders, rapes, etc...vcdquality reports internet's release.

Whether it is illegal or not though is not the point. Some types of sites are excluded by some ad sites TOS, e.g. you cant run Adsense on gambling sites, even though they are also legal.
