    whois.net

I found a useful tool yesterday for finding domain names...

    http://www.whois.net

They allow you to view up to 2001 domain names per query. It is also entertaining to see domain names that people registered and they didn't renew. People had high hopes back in '98-'99. Everyone was on their way to making millions by just registering that 'special' domain.

Seems that domains are becoming realistically profitable this time and with hosting so cheap and dynamic websites easy to create. You should check it out.

Amazingly the human being can take just about any word and combine it with letters, numbers, or a 1-800 and make it 'porn' related. Some of the domains are unbelieveable.

    www.whois.sc is very useful too.

DNJournal posts the top weekly domain sales. This week Uruguay.com went for $175,000.

I strongly recommend everyone read this article about a young domain investory/web developer from South America: http://www.dnjournal.com/columns/cover070405.htm -- I should start a new thread for this its so good.

Nice site Cutter, Thanks for sharing.

It would be nice to be sitting on a $175k domain name!

That is an excellent article Cutter! I think a new thread would probably be a good thing, some very interesting discussion points on there.

I used to buy/sell domains heavily a couple years ago. I wish I had held onto them, but oh well.

    They included motorcycleboots.com, motorizedscooters.com, lighters.net, saddamhussein.net, warcraft3.net, dh.net, and quite a few more.

    domain value

It does seem that domain names have a much more 'realistic' worth.

Affiliate sales companies are much more 'real', scripting languages have become much more easy to use, and true 'turn key' solutions are actually available and they work.

There are a great many factors that make that 'domain' you have been sitting on an actual asset today.

I used to believe that when I passed up a domain name, then saw it owned by a massive company with (tens of) thousands of uniques per day that I'd done something horrible to myself by not registering it, 'cause then I'd have that site raking in all that; but it's truly NOT the domain name that defines the site, and how much traffic etc. it'll get. It's the makers: how much work they put into it; how dedicated they are to it; how high quality of content they can put out; etc...

James, what you are saying is true, but it doesn't justify losing a great .com.

Imagine starting up an italian restaurant. If you have the hot property in the city to go along with it, it makes business easier.

True. Warcraft3.net is a ****ing great domain name.
I had an almost similar situation, but with the .com version of a game and it got cancelled--if anyone remembers donkey kong racing.
