    Help!! 7000 page website!!

I'm in the process of building a site that will have a directory listing, eventually being nationwide, so there will be 50 states with approx. 50 subcatagories per state and then the pages containing the listings. From my estimation, it will be in the neighborhood of 7000 pages when done! Being self educated about building sites, thats the only way I know how to do it. Is there a way to not have to create so many pages or is a site with that many pages a common thing?

You need to build a database driven site.

I have a site with over 13,000 "pages" and it is generated by only about 6 files.

I'm working on a site at the moment, database driven, that will have roughly 2k pages. It's the first one I've done that will be that large. But like Chris' it is driven by a database, and only has about 5 main php files driving the show.

Out of interest Chris, what site of yours has 13,000 pages? I don't remember seeing one that large?

Thanks everyone for the info. Now to figure out how to accomplish the task-What's required to do something of that nature? Is it plain html type stuff or something more elaborate?

You'll need to learn a scripting language like PHP and use a database such as MySQL. There're loads and loads of tutorials on the web for both of these.

I will learn them, but out of interest, does it page rank individual pages if you have them all in one php file?

I'd love to publish a large indepth tutorial on making a database driven site.

However I don't have the time to right a good one.

I'd even pay someone to write one.
