    Newsletters

How many of you send out newsletters to your visitors? I've been looking into various programs, scripts, and online services for newsletter management, and I'm interested in hearing what everyone here uses and how it works for them.

Also, who here has newsletters that I could subscribe to and see some examples of what you send out?

I'll be starting out soon. I don't have one now to show you, however.

Another issue to consider is the legal aspects of sending a newsletter (how to avoid getting called SPAM etc). From what I understand, spam laws vary from state to state in the US, and from country to country internationally. Have you looked into this?

A little. Right now I'm leaning strongly torwards using one of the online services that specialize in this. Their system would handle all of the subscription management, and the email would be sent out from their servers so even if there were a complaint I wouldn't be the one to deal with it.

What are you planning to use to send them out?

I'm not sure yet. I am still debating whether to do a newsletter. If I do, it will probably be sent from my server (if i can find a decent script). I think I will make it double opt-in to be safe and collect and store IPs on sign-up.

Dada mail is quite good if you are looking for a script to run yourself - handles double opt in and bulk sending etc (and its free!)

Thanks Blue. I'll look into that.

I also ran across http://www.ezinedirector.com , which is an online service you manage through your webbrowser. It handles subscriptions and unsubscriptions for you, sends the mail from their servers, and it's free for as long as your list contains less than 500 addresses. I'm considering this as a way to try things out.

Anyone care to share any examples of newsletters they've sent out?

problem i see with that is when you decide to monetize, how do you move your readers easily to your new newsletter system? assuming you want to monetize.

I'm not sure what you mean by monetize. If you mean put ads in the newsletter, I can just paste them in whether I'm sending the email myself or through an online service.

If I want to move to another script/service, most allow you to import/export your list.

www.constantcontact.com is pretty good. It's a web based solution which I have used for client newsletters and was happy with.

Dr Ralph Wilson did a survey on who uses what program which will give you a good idea of what is out there - go down to the bottom of the pagehttp://www.wilsonweb.com/ebooks/emai...ight_sell_area

I use 1shoppingcart to manage everything. They have incredibly
useful tools for email marketing. Another solution is aweber which
I have used before as well.

If anything, use your email marketing as a tool to be more personal
so you can build relationships and sell.
