Does Adwords still allow you to runs ads that link directly to a site using your affiliate id? I read an article about it, but the article is pretty old so I'm not sure if that's still allowed.

The restriction that is now in place meas that Google only shows the first, most popular ad for a particular landing page.
So if you were to link to popular affiliate sites like Amazon.com , for example, from your adwords advert then your advert is unlikely to appear.
If you search for something like toys on google you can see that the adwords adverts shown only include one going to each domain.
Can't you bypass this by linking to a redirect on your own site? and just use amazon as the name the adwords campaign will show?
Yes, but don't tell anyone.
Why did I think redirects were against the adwords TOS ?
They aren't, as far as I know.Originally Posted by Blue Cat Buxton
