Neato. But I think it's hardly fair to say that because online advertising surpasses magazine advertising that we're all doing better online, because there are a lot more websites out there than magazines. I just hope that advertisers stop with these damn flash ads, and iframes which lag when scrolling.

The Google advertisements (and other such ads) stay put when scrolling via the mouse wheel, and Flash ads just generally make the page go slow.

"A year ago, media buyers could land discounted space on the home pages of major portals for between $100,000 and $180,000 per 24 hours, say buyers. Now, the cost is reaching $300,000."

I am just taking baby steps in the advertising market right now and comments like that don't sound so good. Oh well.

One of the main thrusts of the article is that the online advertising business
for the major portals is on the upswing.

Do you all think that small publishers like those represented on this forum will benefit as well?

I mentioned this in my latest newsletter (shamless plug), but Ad sales are up all over the place. Ex: here and here.

Every week when I do my "rounds" for web dev news I see these kind of articles. Advertising has been in a steady upward trends for months, maybe even longer. It has really been booming lately.

There is an article I saw somewhere that the TV people are trying to get a bill passed that prevents people from skipping commercials. TV commercials are at an all time low. I suspect that a lot of advertisers are looking to the web to capture some of thost lost eyeballs.
