gifntext is a pretty sweet gif maker. In particular it makes adding text and images on top of gifs quite a bit easier. I used to use a janky command-line script to do that but this is so much better. Plus you can add and remove text and images from the gif at specific times. Basically, you can do whatever you want.

Tweening is the process of generating intermediate frames between two images to give the appearance that the first image evolves smoothly into the second image.
