Was looking at getting a template as I get bored doing the design work and the templates look pretty good, but just saw this on templatemonsters help:

The template I use on lots of sites is this template -- and I bought exclusive rights to it from an independent designer.

I have built some sites quickly using webstyle templates from xara.com. If you are already comfortable with CSS and javascript it will be easier than it was for me.

Does anyone have any experience with running a template site? I'm interested in how much $ one of those could bring in.

Ah cool, not sure Im up to buying independent rights to a template yet though

I make 2-500$ / month from my site top-template.com . But, it's hard getting targeted traffic. There are so many template sites out there, not easy to make a difference.

Yeah, I tried and for the first few months it was going ok. After that though, its been downhill. There are sooo many TM affiliates, you really have to offer something different to get noticed.
