When to jump in the water

I know this general topic has already been touched on here:
    http://www.websitepublisher.net/foru...s=&threadid=42

But I have a few additional questions. We don't yet have a lot of traffic on our site. Around 25,000 pageviews per month at present.

However, I see that some of the ad networks recommended on this site only require publishers to have 3,000-5,000 pageviews a month to sign up... in the case of Google AdSense they have no requirement.

My concern though is this - with such low traffic at present, would we be doing more harm than good by all of a sudden introducing advertisements to our site?

IMO yes. Which is why I tell people to wait.

The only ads you'll get with such low traffic will be the annoying and the obnoxious ones. You'll alienate some visitors and some people who had been planning to link to you.

Plus, with 5,000 page views, you'll only make like $2.50 a month if that. Its not a big deal to wait.

A year or so back when I had a site with similar traffic, I put popups etc on.

I made a very small amount, which kinda persuaded me into putting loads of advertisements on.

Now I would wait, as without ad's you should get more traffic.

Games2Go had laods of ads on and about teice as much traffic as that - and I was struggling to earn $1.50 a month.

Im now waiting until Chris tells me to put ads on.

If you are really determined to make money, some local sponsors could work. You could charge a higher price, and your website wouldn't be filled with pop ups and "YOU'VE WON" ads.

But who's gonna pay for advertising on a site without much traffic? Doubt just local sponsors would...

Wakefield.co.uk, ok it does get alot, but not much more than I do, and that makes over £100,000 a year from local advertising. Estate Agents pay loads.

Targetted traffic though. Someone moving to Wakefield will probably check the website out and the estate agent's ads probably get a fairly nice CTR.
