    page rank and category titles

    Hi,

My first question is to do with category titles.

I just went and changed the category titles of these pages:

    http://www.wannabebig.com/category.php?cat=1
    http://www.wannabebig.com/category.php?cat=2
    http://www.wannabebig.com/category.php?cat=3

    So..

"Weighttraining articles" to Weight Training and Body building"
"Nutrition and diet" to "sports nutrition"
"Supplement articles" to Bodybuilding and Nutritional Supplements"

ok, first off sound like a good idea? I did searches on overture to see what was searched for more and it seems that these changes might well bring up some better searches in the SE's?

    Secondly...... about page rank.

My site www.wannabebig.com seems to have a low page rank (4)

Also the 2nd level page ranks have no page rank. (the ones above)

What can I do to improve this?

I was thinking I could link to them from my forums and nutritional site for a start.

Why not change "Nutrition and diet" to "Sports Nutrition and Diet" ?

It all looks like a good idea, as you outlined. The only way to increase your PR is to increase your incoming links or increase the PR of the sites that currently link to you. I think linking from your other sites sounds like a good idea. It will lower their PR though to an extent.

Well, firstly the main page has a very low amount of PR, so devided by all your links you have on the page, it doesn't have a lot to send your sub pages. Also, you have to remember that your sub pages will also be sending, what little PR they get, to other parts of your site.

It could also have something to do with your URL structure, though I doubt it.

Are the URLs new? Not the pages, the actual URLs. Remember its URLs that get the PR.

If you can, I would put the keywords in the URL.

The url's are not new, they have been there ages.

The CMS is due a re-write and one of the things I will be asking for is SEF url's!

Just checked, and those category pages have PR3 as far as I can see. This is with the PR plugin for Firefox though. Can check IE later.

You could work on getting directory listings for subpages -- but if you'll be rewriting the system soon you should wait on that.
