    People search for this?!

First off, hope this is the right forum

Anyway, just had a look on wordtracker to see how many searches are conducted for "search engines" - and it told me 50000 were?!

I mean, what is the point in searching for that on a search engine? Maybe a few hundred, but 50000?

    Can't believe it

if you look at wordtracker's website they'll have the top searches overall listed -- they're equally stupid. things like "yahoo" or "aol"

Yeah! I've always been amazed at finding yahoo in there. I thought there might be some sort of weird technical reason it might be in there. But obviously yahoo offer a whole empire of services, so that may go some way to explaining it.

I wonder with a bit of SEO and loads of sites linking to you if you could beat yahoo on googles listings...

Some parts of Yahoo have PR's of 9, so I doubt it.

Why do people search for google.com and ebay.com and hotmail.com??? They could just type it in... unless the go the go and the search button confused like I did for the first month I had internet in 1996.

its mostly confused and or less computer-literature people who do not understand what a URL is.

Many people still use search engines to type the url in, not the address bar. They're just used to do that or they don't want to change this 'habit' or maybe don't need to...

When I'm on an old slow machine at school and I go on the net I click the address bar, but when I type it goes into the Yahoo search box on www.yahoo.com (the homepage). I can't be bothered typing the address again, so I just search...

You can get to a site by entering it in the google toolbar, which I find surprising considering you can't on google.com.
