Thread: link directory script?

    link directory script?

I'd really like to get my hands on a free Link Directory script that creates static HTML pages. The only one I know of right now is cpLinks, and it's vrey lacking in options.

I just don't have the time to write one myself.

    Anyone know of anything?

The best one I ever used was Links 2 by Gossamer Threads. It's CGI, builds static HTML pages, and has templates you can edit easily.

Mind you, it's about 5 years old now - the company has moved on to SQL-based products - but it's still a great product. Hell, I used this to build the original site that ended up getting me thousands of uniques a day, rock album credits, and a job with a major metal band How's that for an endorsement?

Nohaber (from these forums) has written a nice one that works offline to generate static files. I had a go with it the other day and it works great. I'm not actually using it for my sites, as I have a custom script half written. But it's worth checking out...

Isn't that more for link exchanges? The one I posted lets users rate them, counts click-throughs, etc.

Yeah, it's just a basic directory. It's fine for a basic directory though.

    appreciated

    Hey thanks a lot guys.

I think it'll help, I believe the script I'm using went a little haywire when i was building the directory this morning.

Apparently it doesn't handle symbolic links too well.

    Oh well.

I will definitely be checking the both out.

    Again, thanks.

I believe Links2 is free for trial but if you use it on a commercial site you need a license. I use their SQL product (Links SQL) and it's very good. You can see it in action on www.Meowhoo.com. It's not free though...

Thanks Anat, I meant to mention the license restriction on Links 2.

Links SQL is supposed to be top-notch - I could never afford it, though!

www.wsnlinks.com is only $34.50USD and they allow you to use it on upto 3 websites. It has search-engine friendly urls, too. Well worth the small investment

I use it on my joke-sites directory (in sig).

    Cheers...

If you can stretch for the price Links SQL is easily the most popular directory script.

    Some sites that use it:

    www.Hotscripts.com
    www.Flashkit.com
    www.coffee-maker-store.com
