Where does everyone get their ideas from?

    Hi all,

After I have got a few jobs done, I would like to start another website - but the question is, what about?

So where do you get your inspiration from? Just browing the net or just looking at something and saying "hey, that would be a good idea for a site".

    Views?

I think about what would make money, what would be easy, or what would fill a voild with little competition.

Like my new drug site. I thought "okay... what are some of the highest paying adwords keywords..." The answer was medicine, travel, and perhaps credit cards/debt consolidation. So I formulated ideas for all three topics and made the drug one first.

The travel site is almost done -- its on a very specific topic though (a couple specific resorts).

One thing you could do is make a travel site for UK locations. Write a page or two on major tourist attractions. You could make it a network of sites like stonehenge.traveluk.com and toweroflondon.traveluk.com With pictures and information on each tourist attraction.

The great thing about adsense is that it has made content, atleast some content, profitable. You can make a thousand bucks a month off just a couple thousand page views a day if your site is on the right topic.

So... lets say your goal is 3000 page views a day.

Lets pretend you write about 100 attractions, each individual attraction only needs 30 page views a day. That is very attainable.

If you were very successful you'd use the "PR equity" of your first site and open your second one, travelfrance.com or travelireland.com. Due to cross linking the next two are easier to start and now you're making $3000 a month.

Of course... it'll be alot of work at first -- but once you make one successful content site like that the rest (especially if they're related) are easier.

Thanks very much for all of that Chris - really has put a few ideas in my head

I may do one on UK locations, as last year I was asked to do a project for Geography on UK attractions, so could use information on that.

Thanks again for the great reply

On the topic of high-paying keywords for AdWords, how do you find them Chris? If you use AW, do they have a tool where the top keywords are listed? Thanks.

I didn't find them, I just knew what they were by being involved in this industry.

Do the three keywords you mentioned pay more than hosting ones? They can sometimes pay $5 per click.

I don't know... but I don't think many of them pay $5 and I wouldn't think hosting would either. Advertising $10 a month hosting accounts for $5 a click seems like a good way to lose money. Generally the more expensive something is the more advertisers will pay to acquire a customer and hosting is pretty cheap.

A 4 thousand dollar vacation on the other hand is expensive -- which is why people will bid up on travel keywords.

From a promotion perspective you'd be better off with a seperate domain for each -- its only $8 per year per site and if you do one at a time and don't make the next one until the previous one is successful there shouldn't be any problem with affording it.
