    Amazon enters the search game

    www.a9.com

Combines web & book searches side-by-side (eg. http://a9.com/webmaster?a=ob ) and includes Alexa info (God knows why). It also shows search history.

For now, it looks like they are using Google results (and ads). Will be interesting to see where this goes.

The design is nice but not as usable as the (plain) Google one. The text is to small and the contrast of certain elements is to low against the background. About the results ... well it's just Google fornow alltough they said they are serious about this and want to become a big player in this field so I guess that means they'll drop Google sooner or later.

Yep, the design isn't good. Well, it is good, but not for a search engine. Wrong colour.

I thought we already had a thread on this?

I don't think Amazon is serious about competing with the likes of Google (afterall Google powers a9) but rather they see this as a way to get more sales.

It may be using google to get a boost untill its in a good position to compete.
