Digital Camera - Size Setting for Photo Printout

Goal: Trying to figure out which setting I should have the digital camera set to - printing out a 4x6 photo at best quality.

Users have the option to take a photo at:

2272 x 1704 Super-Fine JPEG
2272 x 1704 Fine JPEG
2272 x 1704 Normal JPEG
1600 x 1200 Super-Fine JPEG
1024 x 768 Super-Fine JPEG


Is 1024 x 768 fine for a 4x6 photo printout (main concern)?
I have no clue. Or should I go with the 2272 x 1704 Super-Fine?

Going to shoot photos and print out at Walmart. Would be aweful to see a 'Kodak-Moment' photo that does not come out to well.

Not sure about your camera, but my Olympus allows me to copy them to my computer without removing them from the camera disk. It simply opens the camera as an additional drive. You can go in set your file icons to thumbnail, select the pictures you want, then copy and paste them to MyDocuments or whatever, where you can play with size and resolution. I have in the past even reloaded files to the camera by dragging and dropping them into that drive.

The camera should have come with software, but in the event it didn't, I've had excellent luck with Cam2PC. It's a free download to boot. http://www.snapfiles.com/get/cam2pc.html.

Your 4x6 prints will turn out excellent if you go with the highest setting on your camera.

It depends on how much storage space you've got. If you've got way more than you need, then go for the max setting of 2272x1704 super-fine. But you'll get more shots by going with 1600x1200 which is still plenty for a 4x6. Even 1024x768 will be acceptable for 4x6 prints. However, more pixels is always better. There's the chance that you'll want a 5x7 or even 8x10, or the chance that you'll want to crop a photo but still get that 4x6, and having more pixels available to work with willl allow you to do that without sacrificing quality.

Yes, irrespective the size you want output on hardcopy - the higher the res, the better the print.

That is strange. The staff told me that is a certain limit for a 4x6 print. So if the res is too high, portion of the image will be chopped off on the 4x6 print.
Could you explain that?

the photo/.image can be cropped or resized. when its resized for example, your .img would stay sharp and neat, as to being blurry... if the .imgs are shot on low res.
