    Database builders and free database software

    Has anyone got any advice on choosing one.

    I've used FLATTEX Database Scripts before. They are not free, but they are not expensive and are fully customizable. I've used them for 3 or 4 years and never had a glitch.

    Navicat is a good MySQL windows based frontend (not for when you run MySQL on your PC, but when you want an application to connect to MySQL remotely hosted on your webserver from your PC). IT has some nice features for importing files from a variety of formats (xml etc). For one time imports thus it greatly simplifies things, as opposed to coding up a custom PHP script that'll put your data in a MySQL friendly format for import
