Angry How do I re-register domains if the company I did it with the first time is no longer

I am brand new to the domain asset world - well, six months or so...and I have been in a big FOG about how to make it "work" for me. Reading many of the posts here has helped me a lot. I do have a problem that I need some help with.

It all started about a year and a half ago when a friend caught the domain asset bug and suggested I "invest" and I eventually did. I now have a bunch. They are parked at Fabulous.

The problem is I've noticed about 140 assets are not really parked at Fabulous like I thought. The company that registered them has gone out of business and the ICANN doesn't seem to be able to help. My friend is gone...and I have no clue what to do...Now I'm worried and am wondering If I'm going to lose them all. Any suggestions?

Sounds like you were taken for a ride.

    1. Never have someone register your domains for you. If they do so, THEY own the domains.

    2. If you think you own domains and they're registered to someone else, you are at their mercy.

Chalk this up to a learning experience I guess, assuming the value you lost isn't enough to warrant legal action.

Do you know how to check the WHOIS info on a domain?

Basically what the Whois says is who owns them, try whois.sc

You can always sue, but seeing how many years it took the rightful owner of sex.com to get his domain back, when it was a clear cut case, I wouldn't bet on it.

    I do

Yes Chris, I do. I show as the registrant and the ICANN is the parent company of the registrar. Graphics

If you're the registrant who is the administrative contact?

Well, then you should be able to get it.

Open up an account at a new registrar, and try to transfer it into your account.

Thanks Chris. Fabulous is a registrar. They said(fabulous) "If the registrar(for my domains in question) was ICANN accredited, I would suggest contacting ICANN via their website ICANN.org. Well, I'm looking at that website and I'm getting that overwhelmed feeling...what should I be looking for to transfer my domains to Fabulous?

I don't know about Fabulus, but in every domain registrar I've used, there is a console for transfering a domain "Transfer a Domain" go there and follow the directions. They'll send an email to the owner or admin for the domain, and since that is you, you should be able to confirm it.

I filed a complaint with ICANN at http://reports.internic.net/cgi/regi...lem-report.cgi.

Thanks for your help. If you have any other advice, please let me know. I'll keep you posted. Graphics

Complaining to ICANN is a waste of time, they could get 500 complaints about a real issue and they won't do anything about it.

Contact the registrar directly. If you are on the whois, you own it. Fabulous is a good company, although I haven't used them personally

You need the auth code (aka EPP code) from your currently registrar to be able to transfer it. The is what the "missing parameter" is in your transfer request.

I would contact your current registrar to either get access to your account or request the auth code be sent to the regsistrant email address.
