not really.
Probably worth a punt though - it;s free and not that time consuing to set it up.
I think it will only work though if you already have a customer base to throw at it and therefore hopefully all of their friends will see they joined.

Facebook might kick you off for anything commercial. For Myspace its pretty common for businesses to have a profile (be it a bar, club, tattoo shop, whatever.) Clients add them as friends and then can get updates via Myspace. Not a bad alternative to RSS or e-mail newsletters. Actually a great alternative depending on what market your dealing with.

Well that is interesting, and why I asked. I have noticed quite a few web design companies advertising on Facebook, then sending the traffic to a Facebook Page rather than their site - which got me thinking...Facebook might kick you off for anything commercial
You got quite a few fans at yours Cloughie

Thanks!
I think it all depends on what type of business you are.
We have 348 fans and they are all interested in fitness. Fitness is fairly broad though and it doesn't necc mean their friends are into fitness.
But, pick something like...... hardcore athletes. If I was running a personal training gyma nd just focused on athletes and wanted more. If I set up a page and got 50 of my athlete clients to join, there is a good chance many of their friends would be athletes as they tend to mix with each other due to their lifestyle.
So, I think the key is if you have a business where it's a niche and perhaps even a fairly fanatical type of customer and there is a good chance many of their friends also share the same interests, it works better for you.
I'm def gonna give facebook advetiising a punt soon, I'll let you know how it goes.

A friend swore to me that Facebook was great for networking and promotion. I don't see it at all.
I am trying to generate traffic via videos at YouTube -- so far got one new visitor. Oh, wow.
I also blog now. Doesn't help traffic as far as I can tell, but does allow me to rant and rave.

I agree. It's a good social networking site that's why facebook is popular worldwide. Traffic, profit and gaining friends is effective on Facebook than some bookmarking sites that I know.
