Where do you find your developers?

I'm having a real hard time finding reliable PHP/MySQL/JS developers these days.

They're all getting picked up by large companies or they are working on their own endeavorers.

Where do you find your developers?

Oh..oh ho. Don't get started on them. Programmers must be the most unreliable workers out there.

Most people you rely (workers) are not reliable, any business.

I found one at rentacoder.com, not sure if I got lucky - but the bloke is a bloody legend.

I just read all the feedback and looked at his ratings

I've used odesk.com and elance in the past. both have been relatively hit or miss.

the thing about hourly wages are... good coders SHOULD get work done in fewer hours, so they're worth it.

The problem is when you find people who think they're good coders and still want the higher end rates for their much slower work.

So much of PHP programming, especially content management stuff, is just busywork. Database queries, text manipulation, and HTML echoing. Nothing overly complex. You just gotta do it, and then look for all the missing ;'s you forgot. But some people are much quicker at it than others.

I normally ask for a quote on a brief, not an hourly rate - both parties know exactly where they are and what is expected of them then

    Exactly.
Most is busy work, I hate busy work. I like complex, and challenging work.

I`m always looking for a coder who likes busy work

FWIW for coding projects I charge 60/hr and sometimes 75/hr.

    Where to find developer

If I were you, I would find freelance developers at Guru.com or eLance.com. Post a project with a decent budget and you will get developers bidding on your project. Besides those two sites, there are other freelancer marketplaces listed here where you can find developers.

I grew my own. Of course the lead time (33 years) wouldn't work for everyone
