Spamming is commerce whether we like it or not?????

http://www.webhostingtalk.com is a forum that I visit on occasion and I noticed they were really slamming a poor guy for asking a question about spamming. Naturally I am for responsible can spam compliant advertising. Well Guess the topic was way to hot for them to handle and I was banned from there forum , Never had a problem before. I know each and every one of you have you own opinions and I think it is our god given write to be able to say what we think. I want to thank this forum for allowing me to post here. I would appreciate everyone's opinion on the subject below

I am a sales person for a company who provides Bullet proof hosting. Through reading many posts here I understand most of you do not approve of Spamming. I would like to say many clients of ours would not exits if it were not for spamming.( Note )I am sure most of you will give me a lot of grief about this post. Ok don't most of you also remember when porno was a bad word.Well guess what ,if it were not for porno the internet as we know it would not exist. Most of us including me receive spam every day of our lives .Yes it's a pain in the *** ,but if you don't want to receive it get off the net. Next point yes there is a cost involved in bandwidth and in man hours need to control spamming. What about all the new advances in software ? What about all the small guys developing software programs to block it . This is what we call COMMERCE. I personally believe spamming will never be stopped . Have none of you ever thought about the large companies that sell your emails. Hotmail, yahoo just a few. I cannot even tell you how many companies sell email address from there client data bases. So yes there is a cost involved. But there is also money being made because of it and advances in technology as well. Now that I have offended many people here , get over it and get on with it. Build a solution to solve it and then sell it . One last thought what about the guy who puts up a site uses a opt category from a can spam compliant mailer. The guy get a couple of complaints and he host shuts him down. I don't think that is write. So in my conclusion here if you need a host let me know . I will be happy to host you even if you us spam as your advertising .

Well I am not a spamer . But other than your hate for them . Why dont you give us some reasons why. I posted this topic to get some real responces from people . I appreciate your responce and wish you the best.

I agree with you. But here is what I am seeing. You are a new business on a tight budget; you are selling widgets or whatever. You get your domain name registered, open up your hosting account. Now you have invested quite a bit of time and money. Your site is up but no one knows it is there. This you think this is a problem so you check on how to advertise your site. You could do pay per click wow expensive. Banners don?t really drive traffic to my type of products, search engine will take way too long . Ok so how do I advertise Bulk email? Even if the company you use is an opt in and is can spam compliant your ISP will shut you down in a heart beat , Now lets think about this you have done everything by the book . It only takes a complaint and maybe it was your competition that complained. The ISP will not check into the complaint because it will cost way too much in Man time. So my point to all this is people need to relax. Technology will keep increasing with the need.

I'm fine with opt-in... Just I don't like people mass emailing people who have not agreed to recieve email. If they want sales quickly the web business is not what I would recommed.

Incka looks like we are the only ones ,who have an opinion on this subject. Maybe people are much less concerned than I first thought. Out of 32 views we are the only people communicating abut this subject.

Your offering hosting man, don't expect people to post their views on it. The only thing you've done imho is try to play the nice guy act, buy talking about spam etc.

Thank you MAXF you are correct and I thank you for your support. We are receiving many requests to open up servers for Bulk email. At this time we do not offer this type of service.Quite frankly I am against spam . But I do understand what drives people to use it . Its pure economics send out 1million and receive only 01% return is not a bad. But we want to make a presence and provide the best Bullet proof hosting available on the internet. This is a very tough business as you know. We are considering opening this up to people who are Can Spam Compliant. I have been attempting to gather opinions on how people view Spam . The only way to do this is to ask the public. The big question for us as a web hosting company and me as a sales person is how will this effect our current clients and future? Any feed back on this subject is greatly appreciated .

I feel your offering a good service for people who have permission to use email marketing, lets say they bought optin mail addresses and have an opt-out link on the emails.

Alot of hosts would ban the user instantly even though it isn't spam if they recieved a complaint - That is why I like your hosting plan.

What I do not like is the fact that you are allowing UNSOLISITED email sent and activly allowing it. Buying email addresses is as cheap as chips, why do they need to Spam?

We do not allow any Unsolicited email to be sent off our servers. The biggest reason is consumption of bandwidth and possibly becoming black listed . We do not want any of our client to suffer for the actions of another. I must tell you this is quite difficult . So here we are again where do we draw the line. Read what I put in the other post and you will see what most people think . It is the responsibility of the Government to take care of them, or the ISP to just shut them down. It seems to me no one wants to take responsibility for there own actions.

I am going to add a post of mine from another forum so you can see some of the different things people are saying. It seems to me most people just want to attack the ISP . Yes we do make money being a BPH provider . But it is not nearly as easy as a normal ISP . Well anyway here it is.

Just to set everyone straight here I do not spam and I am not a spammer. We at this time do not offer any servers or hosting to send out spam. We do however allow people to host there sites with us. We cannot become blacklisted if our IP's are clean so that is a non issue at least in our case. Example we provide a pipe of water, what you do with it is your choice. The only regulation we have is ,you are not allowed to spam off our servers . The reason I am conducting this discussion is because we are considering opening some servers for Can Spam Compliant companies. Which means they are legal . I wanted to receive everyone's opinions about spamming in general . How many of you have agreed to receive email from a specific company ? Now 6 months from now you receive an email from them promoting a special offer . You have forgotten that you agreed to receive email from them and turn them in for spamming .Now your ISP shuts you down . Most ISP will not investigate the complaint . It simply would cost them too much time and resources. So what happens, they just cut you off. What recourse do you have ? I will answer that for you NONE. You are out of business until you can get everything back up and running that is if you still have access to your Domain name. You cannot just lump everyone into the same Bowl people . Next point yes maybe in the USA the government can regulate the Domain names. What about China , Asia, Europe, What country has the ability or write to infringe on the laws of a foreign country answer they don't. Unless it is something serious like Iraq. So this now brings us to evolution . If something is broken we try to fix it. Once it is fixed then it breaks again so on and so forth. Just look at Microsoft we started with the dos now we are at XP . My last comment is ,if you receive spam that you do not want . Do not open it ,don't open that email or go to that site, do not purchase from the site.How many of you have received an email that caught your attention.Normally something in the porno area. You just clicked on it . Now you were sent to a landing page of some porno site . Even if you do not purchase anything you have made them a little bit of money in most cases. They sell the offgoing traffic to someone else. That's why you keep getting those dame pop up windows attempting to attract your attention. It is basic economics to me . If spam did not work financially for them they would quite simply stop all on there own. But we are here and contemplating letting some responsible CAN SPAM COMPLIANT companies host with us . So tell me all what you are thinking.
