Does this matter?

I am going to open like a sister site for my template website, and have found a good domain for search engines that I could use for it. The domain I have found is .net, unlike my template site which is .com - but, should this matter at all?

Thanks...just thought that it wouldn't be 'consecutive'

vbulletin.com and vbulletin.org is a good example.
