Free information sources?

I wonder where I can get free information about various subjects like hardware, technology news, etc. that I then could actually use or build a site on. I mean I don't want to have any problems with copyrighted material nor photos.

Depends what you're after. Search for "public domain material". Government sites are always a valuable source of material.
