commenting on a blog for a backlink is spam.

not neccesarily spam if you actually have something useful to share. There is blog finding software that finds blogs and lists there page rank and if they have a nofollow or dofollow setting on their blog. Dofollow means you will get a backlink for the post. i use the free edition of g-lock blog finder. Hope this helped.

Hi, At present, the most blog links might not be counted as great backlinks for some reasons, sometimes they might be no followed or also the blog owner deleting many of the blog comments which do not contain useful information.

The best way is to find blogs of the topic you are interested in. Read the posts carefully and comment if you really have something to say. Crap like "thank you" "great post" "I love your blog" and others are just spam and most blogs will delete them.

Best blogs you can participate in are the "dofollow" blogs - this will help also in your SEO. Just don't spam and be constructive and insightful when participating - this will also help draw direct traffic to your site.
