CSS has a lot of special rules that only apply to HTML. Do these also apply to XHTML?

"Special rules" - could you give an example as there should be no difference in the handling of CSS between XHTML or HTML

At least not if you restrict yourself to the DEPLOYABLE XHTML 1.0, and don't start with the XHTML 1.1 web application nonsense.
