Hi:
Great information on this site! Thank you.

I'm trying to promote my new informational website www.software-configuration.com (http://www.software-configuration.com), and I have chosen a very narrow niche in software development which I am finding is difficult to get back links from already established sites for this specific topic.

My question is do links from slightly off topic sites help my rankings in the search engines? I could easily go after links in a broader more generalized arena, but would that help my rankings on the search engines?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

Rob, FYI, you're not allowed to put links into a fake signature. Use the signature function of the USER CP to set your signature.

Thanks Chris. I believe I fixed that now. Sorry for the newbie mistake.

And to answer your question, yes, any link will help, but the closer in topic the linking site is the better.

It can pass PR, and add to anchor weight if you use your targeted keywords as the anchor text for the inbound links.
