My site (msn emotions) was put into google se within the past 24hours. It got in on the 40th place for the kw, is this just an initial ranking that will change when the pr gets assigned? or..?
Many thanks
- Jaff

It will change, yes. Better or worse... unknown.

It's likely to get better in my experience (which is only limited to a few sites).

I cant see that it would get worse? how could it get worse as i have no pr at the moment at all, surely having some pr will improve the ranking?

Ideally. But it's only a temporary ranking you have at the moment. No one really knows how they rank to begin with. Remember that when google next updates, the sites that are already in front of you could get better and push you even further down the rankings too.

From my experience it usually stays about the same or gets worse...

Use the waiting period to garner more links and add more content :)

Dave, please change the anchor text for my link on your site to "Cell Phone Reviews," instead of "Cell Phones."

Maybe someone can enlighten me about this...

If 2 sites have the same PR, same keywords on their pages (and similar use of), how does one arrive on the first page of results while another is buried back on page 10 or something?

Is it backlinks? Time online? Or the way keywords are used? Which is most important? It's frustrating to say the least!

Compare the anchor text of the backlinks. The result on the first page could have the search term as its anchor text in all its backlinks.

Could also be good use of title tag, and heading tags.

Could also be the page buried on results page 10 is penalized or something?

You also you need to compare the PR of the pages in the SERPs, not the PR of their site.

Ahhh - all my time here and I'm still in the dark with regards to SEO techniques :)

It's my site on page 10 or thereabouts (who'da thunk it?;))... it's only new, with few backlinks, to be fair. But I'd sure like to at least make the front page of the main keyword searches.

Forever onwards!

The more you read the more it begins to sink in. Before you know it, you're thinking like a search engine :)
